Connect Buttons: Fix a clipped recording

Sometimes a recorded word is cut off differently than you want. Recording stops after 3 seconds. The sound your Button plays is the first 1.5 seconds after any silence at the start is removed, so start the word as soon as the recording starts.

Try these tips when you record the word again.

  1. Pause briefly after you tap to start recording. There is a short delay between tapping to start the recording and the moment the recording starts. Waiting a moment makes sure you do not speak before the app is recording. Then start the word as soon as the recording starts.
  2. Keep the word short. Only the first 1.5 seconds of the word play on the Button, so a long word or phrase is cut off.
  3. Record in a silent room. The app picks up sound from your surroundings, such as passing cars, background talking or music. Background noise at the start counts as part of your word, so less of the word itself fits in the 1.5 seconds. Noise can also leave empty space at the start or end of your recording.
  4. Say “b”, “p” and “t” clearly and loudly. These sounds are very light in everyday speech and can be cut off in the recording.
  5. Record the word again if it sounds cut off. After the Base has downloaded the sound, press the Button and listen. If part of the word is missing, record it again.
