Connect Buttons: Move Buttons to another Base

A Connect Button is linked to one Base at a time. Within your household, you can move it to another Base without your phone and without recording its word again.

Link the Button to the new Base, the usual way. You do not need to unlink it from the old Base first.

  1. Make sure the new Base’s LED is off.
  2. Insert the linking pin into the link hole until you feel a light click. The linking pin is the small pin that comes inserted in the Button’s paper instructions, and the link hole is on the bottom of the Button. The Button LED breathes cyan for up to 2 minutes.
  3. Press the Base Button once on the new Base. The Base accepts the Button while its LED goes from breathing blue to solid cyan.
  4. Listen for three chimes (“bo-be-beep”) that confirm the link. The Button and the new Base both show solid cyan for 5 seconds.

When the new Base reports the link, the Button moves automatically:

  • The old Base drops its link to the Button.
  • The recorded word is sent to the new Base.
  • The press history and the word stay with the Button. Nothing needs to be recorded again.

The app sends a “Button unlinked” notification for the old Base. This is expected: it confirms that the old Base no longer has the Button.

You can link several Buttons with one press: put each Button into link mode with the linking pin first, then press the Base Button once on the new Base. The Base links them one at a time, each with its three chimes. If a Button is still breathing cyan after the others are done, press the Base Button once more.

Link mode lasts up to 2 minutes, so put the Buttons into link mode shortly before you press the Base Button.

Words and press history never move between households. In another household the Button starts fresh: give it a name and record its word again; the old household keeps the old history. See Connect Buttons: Link a Button and record its word.
