Connect Base: Set up your Base in the app
To use your Connect Base, you add it to your account in the FluentPet app and connect it to your home Wi-Fi network. The app guides you through each step.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- Install the latest version of the FluentPet app and sign in. See App: Get started with the FluentPet app.
- Charge the Base. The Base must be charged before you start setup. If the app asks you to unplug the Base, you do not need to. The Base only needs to be charged.
- Make sure your Wi-Fi network is a 2.4 GHz network. The Base cannot use 5 GHz.
- Stay close to your Wi-Fi router, so the signal is strong.
- Have your Wi-Fi network name and password ready.
Start setup
Section titled “Start setup”- In the app, tap Hardware at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap Add a Base. If you already have a Base, tap +, then tap Add Base.
- If the app asks for permissions on Let’s configure your settings, allow them. The app needs your location to connect to the Base, and notifications to tell you when your learner presses a Connect Button.
- Check the preparation steps on Base & Wi-Fi preparation and tap Next.
Put the Base in setup mode
Section titled “Put the Base in setup mode”- Find the Base Button on the bottom of the Base. It is marked with a Wi-Fi symbol.
- Hold the Base Button for about 5 seconds, then release it when the LED flashes. Setup mode starts when you hold the button for 4 to 10 seconds.
- Check that the LED alternates cyan and blue and that you hear the 4-chime setup sound. The Base is now in setup mode.
- Tap Next in the app.
The Base leaves setup mode after about 90 seconds without activity from the app. The timer restarts whenever the app connects to the Base or transfers data. If setup mode times out, hold the Base Button again.
Identify your Base
Section titled “Identify your Base”- Tap Scan QR and scan the QR code on the label on the bottom of the Base. You can also scan the QR code on the Base’s box.
- If scanning does not work, tap Manual input and enter the serial number. It has 12 characters, made of digits 0 to 9 and letters A to F, and is on the bottom of your Base, below the QR code.
- When your phone asks to join the Base’s Wi-Fi network, tap Join.
- If your phone asks to allow FluentPet to find devices on your local network, allow it. The app needs this to talk to the Base.
Your phone can take up to a minute to connect to the Base. If it does not connect on the first try, tap Start over and try again. Sometimes it takes several attempts.
Connect the Base to your Wi-Fi network
Section titled “Connect the Base to your Wi-Fi network”- On Select your Wi-Fi network, tap your network. If it is not in the list, move closer to your Wi-Fi router, make sure the network is 2.4 GHz and tap Rescan. If your 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks have the same name, give them different names.
- Enter your Wi-Fi password and tap Connect.
- On Connection progress, wait while the app completes four steps: Connecting Base to Wi-Fi, Registering Base with FluentPet servers, Disconnecting from Base and Confirming Base registration. The last step can take up to 1 minute.
All four steps must complete for the Base to link to your account. If a step fails or times out, tap Start over and set up the Base again from the beginning.
If the app shows that a VPN or network filtering app is active, turn it off during setup. For this and other errors, see Connect Base: Fix problems during Base setup. If you still have a problem, see Support: Contact FluentPet.
Add your Buttons
Section titled “Add your Buttons”When the app shows Base is connected., your Base is set up. On Ready to add buttons?, tap Add buttons to link your Connect Buttons now, or tap Skip for now to do it later. Linking is described in Connect Buttons: Link a Button and record its word.
